• Opening up a new era for industrialized wine production ...

    In 1892, Mr. Chang Bishi (1841-1916), a patriotic overseas Chinese as well as a rich bureaucratic merchant, invested 3 million taels of silver and established Changyu Pioneer Wine Company, the very first winemaking enterprise of China, opening up a new era for industrialized wine production in China. This event has been recorded as one of the four major events of 1892 on the bronze path of China Millennium Monument in Beijing.
  • Introducing foreign wine grapes for the first time

    According to historical records, Chinese people started to plant grape as early as in the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - 9 BC). At the time of Changyu’s founding, however, there were no quality wine grapes in China. Changyu had to introduce 124 kinds of wine grapes in three times from the western countries.
