To many people,Hugh Johnson’s Pocket Wine Bookis a book that opens the world of wines for them. The 2018 edition is already its 41stedition. It has been translated into as many as 17 languages, which makes it an entry-level book on wines that is most read and has the greatest influence.

Hugh Johnson’s Pocket Wine Bookprovides both comprehensive and accurate introduction and authoritative and brief comments on wines, grape growers, and wine winegrowing regions worldwide. It collects fine wines worth purchasing and châteaus worth trusting across the world, including Kilikanoon Wines that Changyu Company purchased in Clare Valley, Australia. In the 2010 edition ofHugh Johnson’s Pocket Wine Book, it had remarks on Kilikanoon Wines that Riesling and Shiraz had amazing performance in wine-tasting exhibitions during the past few years. This February, Kilikanoon Wines won eleven gold medals at the globally authoritative tasting Mundus Vini, where wines including Riesling, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache became the Australian wine brands that won most gold medals at the tasting Mundus Vini for the third time after 2010 and 2017; it was awarded the “best wine producer in Australia” by Mundus Vini Tasting for the second time after 2017.

In fact, in the classicThe World Atlas of Wineco-authored by Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson, five châteaus including Kilikanoon Wines are listed when introducing white wines in Clare Valley, arguing that they “give Riesling of Clare Valley a style of its own”; and six châteaus including Kilikanoon Wines are listed when introducing red wines in Clare Valley, arguing that “the Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon that they brew are most charming and persuasive”. There is also a wine label of Kilikanoon Wines shown in the picture beside that paragraph.

As is known to all, Hugh Johnson came up with the concepts of “new world” and “old world” for wines for the first time in his first monographWinepublished in 1966. As a leading company in the wine industry in China, Changyu Company has had a global layout where it crosses the new world and the old world, traverses the Southern Hemisphere and the Northern Hemisphere, covers major wine producing countries worldwide including France, Spain, Chile, Australia, etc., famous wine winegrowing regions and extraordinary brands. Among which,N Kilikanoon Wines is a château that has won the most prizes and been scored the highest. (Chen Zhuang)
