After Mr. Zhang Bishi gained fame and fortune in the southeast Asia, his ambition tovitalize his motherland by industrywasincreasingly intense. In 1892, he invested 3 million taels of silver and establishedChangyu Pioneer Wine Company in Yantai, the very firstindustrialwinemaking enterprise of China. Companies built by Zhang Bishi were mostly named in the character of“Yu”, citing theauspiciousness ofprosperityand boom in Chinese. The surname of Chang was put in front of“Yu”, thus Changyu got the name.
