In 1981, Feng Yibiao, an agronomist of Changyu, successfully bred two excellent toning grape varieties- Yan 73 and Yan 74, which effectively solved the long-lasting insufficient coloring problem of the red wine. At present, Yan 73 and Yan 74 are being planted all over the country and are deemed the best choice to improve the tone of wines. An innovative research achievement independently made by Changyu, they have the highest natural coloring rate among grapes all over the world and are acclaimed one of the most outstanding contributions made by Changyu to China’s winemaking industry.
